We would like to welcome you to the Year 3/4 team and to let you know about some of the things that you can expect to happen this year.
We have 3 home classes, who work together as a team. All of our classes at St Oswald’s are represented by an animal. In Lower Key Stage Two, our classes are represented by woodland animals!
Dormice Class Mrs Haxby’s class | Foxes Class Miss Hunt’s class | Rabbits Class Mr Lloyd’s class |
What have we been learning about?
Don’t forget about our fortnightly newsletters sent on SeeSaw, our home-school communication platform to find out all about what has been happening in our phase. Please speak to class teachers if you require a code to sign in.
Who are we?
As a phase, we work together as a team so different teachers and support staff will work in different classes throughout the school year. In addition to our phase team, we also work alongside three HLTAs (Higher Level Teaching Assistants) who teach high quality P.E., Spanish and Art lessons.
What does the school day look like in Year 3/4?
Start of day: 8:45am (doors open at 8:40am)

What are the homework expectations?
Planners: Every child will bring home a planner each day. Please use these to check for essential information, record
any home reading and information regarding further home learning. Planners should be brought into school each day.
Reading: Please make sure an adult puts a note in your planner each time you read at home. You can change your book as often as you need to from the bookshelves in the Y3/4 corridor. Owl stamps will be given each time you have read at least three times a week and your planner will be checked at least once a week by an adult at school.
Spellings: Spelling lists get given out at the beginning of each half term and you will have a spelling test every Monday. Each week you will record how you have got on with your spelling test in your planner.
Maths: Maths homework will be given out at the beginning of each week, on either a Monday or Tuesday, and will need to be returned to school by the following Monday.
Home Learning Projects: For each new topic, the children will be asked to create a project at home. This can be presented in whichever form they wish – PPT, model, artwork, diary entry etc. These projects will be showcased in our home Learning Gallery at the end of each topic, when parents are invited in to see the children’s work.
