Safeguarding Children

Everyone has a responsibility to ensure that we keep all our children safe and we take this responsibility very seriously at St Oswald’s. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children. We are always here to help.

If you are concerned about a child or a child makes a disclosure to you, please contact a member of the safeguarding team immediately. Any concerns that you have regarding the welfare of any child or adult working within St Oswald’s CE Primary must be recorded and reported immediately in line with the school’s Safeguarding Policy.

What is safeguarding?

Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is defined as:
– providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge
– protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online
– preventing the impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development
– ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care
– taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Who can I contact if I have a concern?

Please find below a copy of the Department of Education’s key document ‘Keeping Children Safe in Education’. This is the document that all school staff have read and follow in school.

Who should I contact if I have concerns outside of the school day?

As a school team, we are always available throughout the school day and are contactable on an evening/weekend in safeguarding emergencies too.

However, we appreciate that there may be an occasion where school may be unreachable and concerns are at a level of emergency.

If you’re concerned about a child or young person, you can contact the MASH (Multi-Agency Safeguarding Hub) team. If there are immediate concerns about the safety of a child, you should contact North Yorkshire Police on 999
